What do I need to have to get started?

IMPORTANT - WHO IS THIS LESSON FOR?
If all you want to do is post lessons created in ScreenSteps to your WordPress blog then YOU DO NOT NEED TO READ THIS LESSON. This lesson is only for people who want to use ScreenSteps Live to manage their manuals and lessons but have that content appear in their WordPress blog.

How Does It Work?

How_does_it_work_display

When using the ScreenSteps Live WordPress plugin you post and manage your lessons and manuals on ScreenSteps Live but give your users access to those lessons through your WordPress blog. This allows you to:

• Use your WordPress installation to control access to all of your lessons, or
• Distribute the same ScreenSteps Live content to multiple WordPress installations.

The diagram above shows how the plugin works, once it has been installed an configured:
1. You upload lessons/manuals from ScreenSteps Desktop to your ScreenSteps Live account.
2. A user comes to your blog and requests a page that you have created for one of the manuals you created on your ScreenSteps Live account.
3. The SS Live WordPress plugin requests the manual content from your ScreenSteps Live account and displays it to the user inside of your WordPress blog.

A couple of important points:
• The user never has to leave your blog to view your lessons.
• You never have to post any lessons or manuals to your WordPress Blog. As soon as you upload them to your ScreenSteps Live account they are accessible through your blog.

What You Need

Before you can use the ScreenSteps Live plugin in with your WordPress Blog you will need the following:

1. Your own WordPress blog
2. A ScreenSteps Live account
3. A Space in that account
4. A Manual with lessons in that space

If you want to try out the WordPress plugin before setting up your ScreenSteps Live account you can use the example account in the plugin. This will let you see very quickly how things will work without you having to create or populate a ScreenSteps Live account.
