Things to Consider Before You Publish

Before you publish or export your manual there are a few things that you will want to consider.

How Will Your Manual Get Used?

If you are going to use your manual as a technical support resource then we strongly recommend that you put your manual on the web. When your manual is on the web it has the following benefits:

1. It is easy to point your users to specific lessons that will answer their questions.
2. It is easy to update. Just republish your manual and everything will be up to date.

With ScreenSteps you have the following options available for exporting your manual to the web:

Export your manual as HTML files and upload them to your site

As long as you have your own server you can upload your manual to your own web site. You can also customize your HTML templates so that they match the design of your website.

Export to ScreenSteps Live

ScreenSteps Live is our hosted subscription service for publishing your documentation. It allows you to create and maintain a beautiful documentation site in just minutes. Click one button in ScreenSteps and your entire manual is uploaded for you. You can learn more about ScreenSteps Live here.

Publish to other services (MindTouch, Confluence, Zendesk, Google Sites, WordPress, Drupal, Joomla)

You can publish your manual to other services as well, but you will need to publish each lesson individually and recreate your table of contents in that service.

Exporting to PDF or Word

If you just want to deliver a reference document then you can export your manual to PDF or Microsoft Word.

Microsoft Word
You can completely customize your template to match your branding needs.

PDF
You can customize your logo, fonts and text colors.
