Can I use Zendesk authentication to control access to my ScreenSteps Live site?

Short answer: No

Zendesk cannot function as what is called an identity provider. So there isn't a way for ScreenSteps Live to "know" that the user is logged into your Zendesk account.

Longer answer: Kind of

There are a couple of strategies that our customers use to get around this though.

They include:

  1. Embedding an authenticated url for ScreenSteps Live in Zendesk
  2. Using remote authentication

1. Embedding an authenticated url for ScreenSteps Live in Zendesk

The idea behind this approach is that a give users a URL that they can click on that will log them into ScreenSteps Live when they click it. You then only show this URL to users that are logged into Zendesk.

To do this, we suggest following these instructions:

Embed an API Access Username and Password into a URL

2. Using remote authentication

Both Zendesk and ScreenSteps Live support remote authentication. This means, if you manage your users in your own web application, you can your users login to your web application and then authenticate them to both Zendesk and ScreenSteps Live.
