  • By default, ScreenSteps requires that a DSN be configured on every computer that connects to ScreenSteps Workgroup. To bypass this requirement, you can specify the Database Host where your SQL Server installation resides. By doing this, the admin tool will include this address in any connection files you export.

    When ScreenSteps Desktop attempts to connect to a Workgroup library it will first look for a DSN with the same name as the DSN specified in the connection file. If no DSN is found by a Database Host has been configured then ScreenSteps Desktop will attempt to connect to the database using the host setting.

    This lesson will show you where to configure the Database Host.

    Export a Connection File

    In order to connect to a ScreenSteps Workgroup library an author must have access to a connection file. This lesson will show you how to export a generic connection file that does not contain any specific login information for an author.     Connect to Your Workgroup Library

    This lesson will show you how authors can connect to a ScreenSteps Workgroup library.

    To complete this part of the process you will need to have already done the following:

    1. Exported a connection file from the ScreenSteps Workgroup Administrator application
    2. Installed ScreenSteps Desktop for your authors. If you have already been using a non-Workgroup version of ScreenSteps then you don't need to re-download it. If you need to download ScreenSteps Desktop clients then you can get the installers here: Download ScreenSteps Desktop

    Introduction

    This manual will walk you through installing a plugin so that you can post content directly from ScreenSteps to Joomla.

  • This lesson will show you how to navigate to the PDF file you copied to the clipboard into a Windows file selection dialog window.

    Note that you must first copy a document to the clipboard as PDF for these instructions to work.

  • Sometimes you want to quickly tag multiple lessons. The best way to do this is to use the Tag Palette.

  • With ScreenSteps you can quickly copy the path to a PDF version of a lesson to the system clipboard. You can then paste the file path into any system file dialog or application that supports file paths.

    This feature is useful for uploading lessons using a browser or attaching lessons to emails created by applications that don't support the HTML format on the system clipboard.

  • When pasting the rich text representation of a document on the clipboard into an email program you need to check a few settings to ensure that the images will be sent with the email.

    This lesson will show you the settings to check for Apple Mail and Outlook Express.
